Studio Takumi

Taking inspiration from my travels, I explore cross-over of culture, processes are kept as simple as possible.

The Wayang series are based on shadow puppets, Indonesian Wayang Kulit are made from leather in which careful designs are carved. They usually depict figures and charraters from Hindu mythology. I used a more modern material such as plywood and replaced mythological heroes to icons of popular culture.

The Slat series are based on how a group of individual items are combined to create a picture. Each single piece of slat is hand cut.

The idea behind the plywood series was to enhance the natural beauty of the grain with the simplest method possible.

I keep my processes simple and minimal.
